2018 Legislative Update – Energy Efficiency

Welcome 2018!

As most people now know, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which reforms the tax code, has been signed into law by The President. Unfortunately, it does not include an extension of EPAct 179D which offers federal tax credits for energy-efficient projects.

However, we are pleased to inform you that a bill titled “Tax Extender Act of 2017” was introduced into the Senate on 12-20-17. This bill, if passed, would provide a two-year extension of EPAct through December 31, 2018 — allowing incentives to be available retroactively for buildings placed in service in 2017, as well as in 2018.

This could have a dramatic, positive financial impact on energy-efficient projects Innovative Facilities Solutions can offer to our clients. It is likely that this would not be voted on until sometime in early-to-mid January 2018. Innovative Facilities Solutions helps our clients garner as many tax-centric benefits for any project we do for them–all coordinated by the Innovative Facilities Solutions Team.  Our team looks forward to this bill passing swiftly. And, rest assured, we’ll keep you posted.
